This weekend, I was looking over an old VHS tape for gems. In the breaks of the NBC soaps were promos for game show premieres that Monday - Hit Man, Just Men and $ale of the Century. Hit Man and Just Men definitely used their pilots for the material, based on visual and audible differences. Assuming $ale did the same, Jim asks a contestant if they\'re ready to continue playing. Who says they\'re ready to go?

Jack Campion.

The world\'s reigning champ of fake cash and prizes! If that was indeed a pilot, that makes at least 8 for the best damn lawyer in Southern California.

I\'m fascinated by the amount of pilot work this guy has under his belt. Has he ever played anything for real?

I seem to recall Mr. Campion as a contestant on Tic Tac Dough sometime in the early 1980s. Could have been either 1981 or '82, I'm not sure.....

Cordially,

Let's see...Blank Check #1, Second Chance #3, Card Sharks #1, Press Your Luck, the 1983 and '84 Jeopardy! pilots...that's six, all of which are among collectors. What's the seventh?

Has he ever played anything for real?
According to Matt Ottinger two years ago, he may have been on the 1978-79 Jeopardy! after being on its pilot. This might be the seventh pilot Jason was counting.

Personally, I'd love to see those promos. :)

I saw him on something called \"Let\'s Get Personal,\" a post-Wheel-pre-Scrabble pilot for Chuck Woolery. It involved answering personality questions in order to meet the trait being discussed that round with the help of a psychologist. Yeah. One round involved a sketch, in which the actors were Larry Anderson, Tim Stack and Sally Julian. Quite a motley crew.

 Will/can you post?

It\'s possible $ale never had a pilot. I know they put together a pitchfilm to put the show back on the air here in America. The pitchfilm featured clips from the Australian (1980-2001) and British (1971-1983) versions, and the 1973-1974 Syndicated version with Joe Garagiola.

Now I have some observations...

I know the first episode (or week of episodes) offered the maroon Mercedes Benz in that clip...unless of course, the promo used a mix of pilot and premiere week clips. Looking at it again, I think the aired episodes also used the shot of the couple on the sailboat.

I also noticed Sale\'s trademark clear briefcase cash...wasn\'t it a few months before the cash jackpot was offered. If so, that could indeed be from a pilot...

Nope, they still had the cash briefcase in the first four months. (The final level was all of the prizes plus ~$7,000 in cash for a even total of $95,000.)

Just throwing in my two cents from the Hit Man promo thread - all three of the debuting shows had promos airing at that time, and I know Hit Man and Just Men\'s both used clips and other elements from their pilots. My educated guess would be this is $ale\'s pilot we\'re seeing.

A ticket for what appears to be a taping of the Just Men! pilot sometimes turns up on eBay. The date of the ticket was Sunday November 7, 1982. All three shows presumably began actual production in mid-December of that year.

Sudden thought ... wouldn\'t Jack Campion make a great main figure on To Tell The Truth? \"I\'ve been on more game shows than any contestant in history...\"

\"I\'ve been on more game shows than any contestant in history...

...but most people have never seen me in them!\" :D

Daphne Hudson-Fowler would also make a great candidate for that on the US version, since many viewers here may not be familiar with Eggheads or her other quiz appearances.
